Vitamin K2: What are Plieotropics & What are K2’s? - FORD BREWER MD MPH

Episode Summary

Vitamin K2's effect on calcium deposition is well-known. But did you know that K2 has other "side effects" that seem unrelated to calcification? We called such "side effects" pleiotropic effects or pleiotropic roles in medicine. First, I'll describe the pleiotropic effect using antihistamines, the Marfan syndrome gene, Alzheimer's, and statins. You'll find out that vitamin K2 impacts calcification and IR (insulin resistance or prediabetes), and inflammation.
