Vitamin K2 (Part 3): Prediabetes & Inflammation - Multiple Roles - FORD BREWER MD MPH

Episode Summary

Vitamin K2's effect on calcium deposition is well-known. But did you know that K2 has other "side effects" that seem unrelated to calcification? In medicine, we called such "side effects" pleiotropic effects or pleiotropic roles. First, I'll describe what the pleiotropic effect is by using antihistamines, Marfan syndrome gene, Alzheimer's, and statins as examples. In the end, you'll find out that vitamin K2 not only impacts calcification but also impacts IR (insulin resistance or prediabetes) and inflammation.
