The Real Difference Between LDL & HDL: Apo A1 & Apo B - FORD BREWER MD MPH

Episode Summary

Many cholesterol tests include fractionation and details re: Apo A1 and Apo B. What are they? We cover these items in the video. Apo A1 is the protein that makes up all HDL family lipoproteins. Apo B is the protein that makes up all the other basic lipoprotein families, including LDL, VLDL, IDL, and Chylomicrons. HDL stands for High-Density Lipoprotein. LDL stands for Low-Density Lipoprotein. VLDL stands for Very Low-Density Lipoprotein. And IDL stands for Intermediate Density Lipoprotein. Chylomicrons are the largest and fluffiest of the lipoprotein families, made up almost entirely of Apo B and cholesterol, not other fats or oils.
