NR (Nicotinamide Riboside): Niacin that Doesn't Flush (Part 2) - FORD BREWER MD MPH

Episode Summary

Niacin is a common form of vitamin B3 and is known to provide certain cardiovascular benefits. However, niacin may cause an undesirable flush in certain patients. Another B3 form—nicotinamide riboside (NR)—has the advantage of providing B3 supplementation without the flush. But does NR accomplish the same thing as niacin? According to an article in NATURE magazine, NR certainly appears to increase levels of NAD+, with NMN (nicotinamide mononucleotide) being part of the same metabolic pathway. Here's the link of the NATURE article: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-018-03421-7 This part 2 video shows that pathway, discussed the NATURE article, and poses some questions like "Does NR work?"
