Another patient came to me with a routine carotid ultrasound. I had to break the bad news that this study, although by far the most common, is rarely needed. And it doesn't help us much. These are "flow studies", measuring the flow in the carotid arteries. They don't help us understand heart attack & stroke risk. In this video, we go deeper into why CIMT is not done so often: it's hard to do right. Why? Perspective matters - just like photography.
