Dr Ford Brewer - PrevMed

Just HOW COMMON is PreDiabetes - FORD BREWER MD MPH

Episode Summary

There has been a lot of discussion regarding the prediabetes or insulin resistance epidemic. Just how common is prediabetes? We don't know exactly, but it appears to be at least 1/3 of adults - as shown by the CDC. It's far more likely to be much higher. UCLA showed it's over 50% in California. And given the fact that these estimates are based on flawed indicators (A1c and Fasting Glucose), it's probably higher than that. Why does that matter? Charles Piller is Science magazine says it doesn't. But Charles Piller says there are no complications of prediabetes. He's very, very wrong. Prediabetes causes heart attack, stroke, T2DM, eye disease, kidney disease, and a host of other very bad things.
