Fatty liver is rapidly becoming the big liver problem, replacing both Hepatitis C and alcohol. It's now the #1 cause of liver transplants in women and in patients less than 50 years old. It's silent; there are no symptoms. There is a progression from obesity/type 2 diabetes to fatty liver (NAFLD or Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease) to inflammation (NASH or Non-Alcoholic Steato Hepatitis)(in 20%) to cirrhosis and even Hepatocellular Carcinoma (in less than 3%).
