Even the CDC has acknowledged for decades the link between gum disease & stroke. But whether or not gum disease can actually cause stroke has always been at question. The role of diabetes in both has not been questioned in over 50 years. Diabetes causes both. A recent article indicates that the same bacteria that cause gum disease can cause inflammation & disruption of the intima - the smooth lining of the artery wall.
