Stanford U graduate student Heather Hall and Genetics Department chair Michael Snyder have just published an article in PLOS Biology titled Gucotypes reveal new patterns of glucose dysregulation. Now that simple, affordable Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) is available, the studies are starting to come out showing that adults with totally normal standard glycemic evaluation (no diabetes or prediabetes) actually can surprising variation. In other words, people that were thought to be normal may actually have prediabetes (15%) or even full-blown diabetes (2%). The only surprise to me is this; I thought it might be higher.
