The carotid intima media thickness test (CIMT) is emerging to be a promising plaque test. However, it's still beset with its own challenges and problems. One, poor research standards had lead to CIMT's poor acceptance by standards committees. This, in turn, results in poor access to getting a quality CIMT. "Perspective" and technician skills are also part of the problem. Still, even with these problems, a good quality CIMT test is better than any other technique (like stress test and calcium score) for detecting and measuring arterial plaque.
