There is huge variability in ordering stress tests. Studies have shown that most doctors will order stress tests 25% of the time for certain conditions, while some doctors will order a stress test over 75% of the time. But it seems like we are doing lots of unnecessary stress tests. Stress tests only detect blockage that's greater than 50%. However, 68% of heart attacks occur in occlusion of less than 50%. So think twice if your doc suggests stress testing. I also provided a little follow-up on recent information that I've provided. For example, if stress tests don't cure angina in clinical trials, why do some people feel better?
