There were initial reports that the COVID-19 virus sticks to the ACE2 receptor in the body. BP meds ACE inhibitors and ARB drugs affect ACE2 levels and thus may affect COVID-19. However, reports are conflicting—some say the 2 drugs increase COVID-19 risk, while others say otherwise. Professional organizations European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and the American Heart Association (AHA) released their positions, advising doctors and patients not to stop taking these BP meds.
